The sari-sari store is one of the symbols of being a Filipino. A sari-sari store is like a downgraded version of the convenience store. It is not equipped with an air-conditioner but it is complete from toiletries up to the instant foods and drinks.

In the Philippines it is normal to find a Sari-sari store almost everywhere. But for the Filipinos who were abroad in the US, it is odd to see one.

But a woman named Merle Snow, decided to enter the retail and food industry as she established a Sari-Sari store named Lil-M, Sari-Sari Filipino store which is located in Gates, New York.

According to the story that was created by Merle that was entitled, 'Putnam: Filipino fills needs for food, socializing', the Filipinos love to socialize as they were buying stuff from a sari-sari store. This story was featured in Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

In her place she sells stuff such as beef tapa, stuffed milkfish and some signature Filipino-made spices. Outside of the store is a 'Tambayan Area' whereas the community could socialize after they buy food at the stall.
