Simbang Gabi or the Dawn Mass is a tradition here in the Philippines. It is a mass that starts on December 16, at 4.a.m. This is done to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then, it will be followed by the Misa De Gallo that happens on the Christmas Eve.

The couples who are in a relationship are being encouraged by the Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines to attend the Simbang Gabi. This aims to put God into their friendship as well.

"It means they are putting God as the setting of their friendship," Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the President of the CBCP said.

But not all parishes are in favor of the statement given by the CBCP. The Jaro Parish located in Iloilo says that the couples should only stay outside the church and should not go to the Simbang Gabi.
Parish Has A Message To The Couples: 'Simbang Gabi is for worship, not courtship'

The parish said in their article, "Simbang Gabi is for worship, not for courtship."

This year, the Simbang Gabi focuses on the year of the Eucharist and the Family. It is in line with the preparation of the International Eucharistic Congress that will be held in Cebu.
